About Me
My name is Dr. Catherine Bavister, I am a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
I have been working in mental health services for 20 years, in both primary and secondary care. My NHS work has predominantly been with adults in complex mental health services seeking support for anxiety, depression, attachment difficulties and trauma (including childhood abuse, and dissociation).
I also have a keen interest in Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Having studied neuroatypical conditions as an undergraduate, I went on to work in ASD services supporting adults, and I was the lead in delivering service-wide 'Introduction to Autism' training to staff.

I am able to offer a range of therapeutic approaches but I tailor the therapy to meet your individual needs and preferences. I would also develop a psychological formulation with you, to help you understand yourself better, and plan how to make the changes you wish to make. I use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), but I do tend to bring in what works e.g. from Narrative Therapy, Systemic Therapy, Attachment Theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and principles of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.

On a more personal note, I am aware that starting therapy can be a big step and one which you might still be uncertain about. Whether you would like some more information, or to ask questions, or would like to trial a session or two, do feel free to get in touch. There are no long term commitments, and I appreciate that it has got to be the right time and the right person for you.
